'The Pink Panther'
(Steve Martin, Jean Reno, Beyoncé Knowles, Kevin Kline, David Beckham, et al / PG / 91 mins / MGM)

Overview: A famous soccer celeb is murdered and his ring stolen, a ring set with the Pink Panther diamond. Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Kline) assigns the case to Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Martin), a man with a penchant for bumbling his way to success, and Gendarme Gilbert Ponton (Reno), a stuffy Frenchman. Along for the ride: International pop superstar Xania (Knowles).

Verdict: 'The Pink Panther' is a fascinating hit and largely miss exercise — a glass about three-quarters empty or one-quarter full, depending on one's eagerness to succumb! There is no element of surprise, for the most part is bland and unfunny, and containing just three (and you CAN count them trust me!) funny jokes out of 10 just doesn't cut it! The new Clouseau SHOULD have been a lot funnier, but one feels that Martin was due to play this role a few years ago and that he just got bored waiting for MGM to figure his salary out ... even during the actual filming, by the looks of things!
