'The Island'
(Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Djimon Hounsou, Steve Buscemi, et al / PG-13 / 89 mins / Dreamworks)

Overview: In the near future, wealthy Americans can have themselves cloned, with the option of using their clones for organ transplants. One of these clones (McGregor) starts to suspect the true nature of the facility in which he was raised, and plots an escape with a friend (Johansson).

Verdict: Promising in the early going, 'The island' quickly (and painfully) descends into pointless, ceaseless action! Nary an original idea abounding, this glossy, OK, sometimes weirdly witty eye candy with some moderately chewy stuff in the middle is nothing short of being a derivative sci-fi thriller that morphs into an below-average chase melodrama!
