'Dark Water'
(Jennifer Connelly, Shelley DuVall, Ariel Gade, Tim Roth, John C. Reilly, et al / PG-13 / 91 mins / Touchstone Pictures)

Overview: A mother and daughter flee to an old apartment building during a custody battle with the girl's father, but upon their arrival they find that the place is haunted by the ghost of a child who used to live there.

Verdict: This huge shudder-by-numbers doesn't exactly float much above mediocrity, but while there are some things that work in the movie, there's some others that never quite work about the film as a bigger whole! Actually, no amount of tastefully desaturated color can save this lumbering echt-thriller from fatal tedium!
