'The Longest Yard'
(Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, James Cromwell, Nelly, William Fichtner, Burt Reynolds, et al / PG-13 / 92 mins / Sony Pictures)

Overview: Former pro quarterback Paul Crewe (Adam Sandler) and ex-college coach Nate Scarborough (Burt Reynolds) are stuck doing time in the same prison. After they're asked to put together a team of inmates to challenge the guards on the gridiron, they discover that the match is fixed.

Verdict: Generally pleasing, ultimately "Yard" suffers because it's too much like the movie it aims to remake! Shrewdly updated yet surprisingly faithful remake, "Yard" pulsates with avarice, stupidity and cynicism. Quickly paced, slickly filmed entertainment, "Yard" should at the very least make you smile, root for the underdogs and ensure that you aren't asking for your money back come the end of the flick!
