'Sin City'
(Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Elijah Wood, Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, et al / R / 82 mins / Dimension)

Overview: Set in a rain-swept place called Sin City, this comic book adaptation follows Marv, a tough guy who meets the girl of his dreams, Goldie, only to see her murdered on that same night. Marv then searches every bar and shady hideout in Vegas looking for the killer.

Verdict: 'Sin City' is impressive, absolutely … but it's also a little distancing; you never quite forget you're watching one master ape another! Therein, this film is an amazingly successful attempt by Robert Rodriguez to translate Frank Miller's hard-boiled, brutally violent crime comic to the big screen. A satisfying puzzle whose pieces fit together neatly in the end, 'Sin City' is basically a visually arresting blitzkrieg with action so bare-knuckled you'll leave the theater spitting out teeth!
