'Constantine'
(Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Tilda Swinton, Gavin Rossdale, Djimon Hounsou / R / 93 mins / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Based on the DC-Vertigo comic book Hellblazer, the story centers on a man interested in the occult, John Constantine (Keanu Reeves), who partners with a female police officer (Rachel Weisz) to fight evil forces.

Verdict: Though the story is potentially fascinating and the visuals sometimes spellbinding, the movie itself is stranded in the purgatory of the second-rate. Admittedly, 'Constantine' is not a timid film, yet it's not an entirely successful one, either! A heady mix of pulpy dialogue, eerie atmosphere, biblical mythology, the film ends up a virtual mess and sorely lacks the courage of its pulpy convictions.
