'The Wedding Date'
(Dermot Mulroney, Debra Messing, Jack Davenport, Holland Taylor / PG-13 / 91 mins / Universal)

Overview: Kat (Debra Messing), planning a return to London for her sister's wedding, discovers that her ex-fiancÚ will be serving as the best man. In a panic, she hires a male escort (Dermot Mulroney) to stand in as her significant other, leading to confusion, uncomfortable situations, and numerous bizarre set pieces. As usual, hilarity ensues.

Verdict: Despite the stock feel of many of its characters and a sometimes laughably obvious script, the film has an energetic grace ... and yet presents the curious case of two appealing performances surviving a bombardment of schlock! That said, and in all honsty, 'The Wedding Date' is only marginally less painful than wearing fuchsia pumps as a bridesmaid!!!
