'National Treasure'
(Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Sean Bean, Diane Kruger / PG-13 / 94 mins / BVHE)
Overview: Nic Cage stars as an archaeologist who believes that one of the nation's founding documents holds clues that may lead to a treasure buried in the 1700s.
Verdict: Basically, Director Jon Turteltaub limits himself to the Bruckheimer format: lots of trumped-up flash cutting, improbable dances with death, and a series of thunderous explosions! That said, once 'National Treasure' gets going, it's hard not to forget the story's lamer points and get caught up in the action! Corny but ultimately rip-roaring, 'National Treasure' has no ambition, little sense and false sentiment, but it does have velocity in all manner of enjoyable shape and popcorn forms!
