'The Machinist'
(Jennifer Jason Leigh, Christian Bale / R / 97 mins / Filmax)

Overview: An insomniac lathe operator (Christian Bale) is haunted by a ghostly figure he sees in the factory.

Verdict: Oh man, 'The Machinest' is so brave and visually impressive, it should demand an audience! A brilliantly honed tale of dementia - and sure, mighty atmospheric but shallow in certain aspects - the film may be a little deflating at the end, but for most of its running time, it's one hell of an eerie ride! Also remember, as well you should, that lead actor Christian Bale lost a full third of his body weight for this impressive role!
