'Danny Deckchair'
(Rhys Ifans, Miranda Otto, Justine Clarke, Rhys Muldoon / PG-13 / 87 mins / Lions Gate)

Overview: Danny is a cement truck driver with a bad girlfriend, who manages to screw up his holiday plans. Furious, Danny plots to escape his suburban prison by fitting a deckchair with helium balloons in hopes of flying away. Surprisingly, his plan works, and he soon finds himself in a neighboring town.

Verdict: Unevenly pitched somewhere between a straight-faced 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' and a magical, realist 'Big Fish,' 'Danny Deckchair' is made all the more worthwhile thanks to an astoundingly charming performance by Brit fave, Ifans! Vibrant, corny fun at it's best, dire, dreary plodding-along rib-poking at its worst, at it's middling position 'Danny Deckchair' is a highly original and delightfully funny romantic comedy!
