'Catwoman'
(Halle Berry, Sharon Stone, Benjamin Bratt, Frances McDormand / PG-13 / 84 mins / Warner Bros.)

Overview: Graphic artist Patience Philips (Halle Berry) is murdered by the stooges of Avenal Beauty, the cosmetics company she works for, when she discovers the company's dark secret. An Egyptian mau cat whose life she saved brings her back to life, after which she assumes the identity of the titular feline superhero, seeking vengeance upon the evil head honchos who run Avenal (Sharon Stone, Lambert Wilson).

Verdict: To be brutally frank, 'Catwoman' a howlingly silly, moderately diverting exercise in high, pointless style! Worse still, when the visuals stop — say, for dialogue — the movie thuds to a halt! And although not the complete train wreck one might anticipate, a movie needs more than a few sexual innuendos and throaty purrs to keep us from taking a catnap! Filled with endless pockets of dead air that should be crackling with pulp energy, 'Catwoman' is purr-fectly ridiculous and boring cat-astrophe!!
