'The Punisher'
(Thomas Jane, John Travolta, James Carpinello, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos / R / 124 mins / Lions Gate)

Overview: The Punisher follows an FBI undercover agent, Frank Castle (Thomas Jane); he's a former Special Forces member who is finally moving into a safe desk job, to the delight of his wife and son. But when his family is executed after witnessing a mafia hit, Castle dons a black battle suit, arms himself with a ton of guns, and seeks swift revenge.

Verdict: In all honesty, 'The Punisher' (circa '04) is a straightforward, somewhat old-fashioned action picture. That said, it is also a pretty painful, and an unbearably sluggish action movie at its best! In fact, this could be any of a number of generic movies where the hero suffers a loss and snaps. A long, dark slog through grim revenge, 'The Punisher' (circa '04) is unpleasant, ultra-violent and yet another comic book-based bomb!
