'HellBoy'
(Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, John Hurt, Doug Jones, David Hyde Pierce / PG-13 / 85 mins / Sony)
Overview: Based on the character and comic books created by writer-artist Mike Mignola, 'Hellboy' follows a man who is the spawn of Satan but has grown up on Earth and become an investigator into the paranormal. His latest case brings him into contact with the evil Nazi wizard who wrenched him from the underworld.
Verdict: Wisecracking, tormented, scary, and sexy, 'Hellboy' is easily one of the sturdier superhero movies of the last couple of years. Oh sure it's still a big, noisy goof of a comic-book action film, but there's also a wry tone to the whole production which ensures that the sound and fury is deftly apportioned with heart and soul. Basically, 'Hellboy' is a fun monster movie with likably squirmy special-effects and with all its vibrating energy, you can sense the zeal and joy in its making! Go and watch this flick with your brain switched off and you'll have a ball!
