'Something's Gotta Give'
(Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves / PG-13 / 94 mins / Sony Pictures)
Overview: Jack Nicholson stars as an older man seemingly content with his career and with a girlfriend young enough to be his daughter. After suffering a heart attack at the house of his girlfriend's mother (Diane Keaton) in the Hamptons, N.Y., he reconsiders his life. A young doctor (Keanu Reeves) arrives to help in the recuperation process, but he finds himself attracted to Keaton's character, a woman old enough to be his mother. Nicholson's character also begins to enjoy the care and company of a woman his own age, which results in a competition of sorts between the two men.
Verdict: This movie is about watching the acting dynamic between Nicholson and Keaton, but that aside is really no more than a coy wish list for all the women who ever wanted to bring Jack Nicholson to heel! 'Something's Gotta Give' may well be far too long and unevenly paced, despite its many tart one-liners, yet is something special, unusually satisfying, and a kind of updated and saucier version of a Rock Hudson-Doris Day comedy!
