'The Hunted'
(Tommy Lee Jones, Benico Del Toro / R / 94 mins / Paramount)

Overview: People get their kicks from all kinds of things. For one battle-addled ex-military assassin (Benicio Del Toro), offing deer hunters is just the thing. His former instructor (Tommy Lee Jones) teams up with the FBI to catch him, leading to (what else?) a deadly cat-and-mouse game.

Verdict: Ohhh, Oscar winners deserve better than the man's-man games both Mr. Jones and Mr. Del Toro are subjected to here (and I say that as a fan of action-movie mechanics). Corny and confused, brain-dead and depressing, 'The Hunted' is just another schlocky Hollywood serial-killer thriller that is way too close to a 'Rambo' rehash for my liking! To put it all another way, 'The Hunted' stalks the masculine psyche with sharp knives, but it tracks its audience too noisily to bag us!
