The Ring
(Daveigh Chase, Naomi Watts / R / 93 mins / Dreamworks)

Overview:This remake of a 1998 Japanese film focuses on a female journalist who finds and watches a strange videotape. Even stranger is the potential threat the tape poses — everyone who has watched it has died within a week.

Verdict:The Japanese 'Ring' is based on the first of a series of novels by Suzuki Koji (all three of which have been made into movies), so we may see two additional remakes in the works, but yet I have to stamp my seal of high - and COMPLETELY unexpected approval on this 'first' version. Sure it starts of slow, the building process tedious and winding, but when it finds its spooky, creepy niche, man, does this sucker pull you in kicking and screaming ! 'The Ring' is one hell of a Halloween-time flick to go and watch and may even give you few nightmares too ! Check it out ... if you dare !
