Half Past Dead
(Steven Seagal, Ja Rule / PG-13 / 87 mins / Sony Pictures)

Overview:A criminal genius (Morris Chestnut) tries to sneak his way into a high-tech prison to get an inmate on death row to tell him the location of $200 million in gold from an unsolved heist. The trouble is that the FBI has a man on the inside (Steven Seagal) to foil his plan. Ja Rule also co-stars.

Verdict:The strangest career in Hollywood continues its gradual disintegration yet again as once more Steven Seagal takes ahold of a lead cinematic role and butchers it violently as usual ! 'Half Past Dead' has the cheesy, deadened feel of a straight-to-cable film and is a succession of senseless scenes bathed in formula-thriller blue light ! In fact, it comes across as like 'The Rock' but on a Wal-Mart budget ! And, no, the title 'Half Past Dead' doesn't refer to Steven Seagal's career, but judging by his latest DOA shoot-'em-up, it may as well.
