The Stick People The Stick People

'Sticking To The Facts'

Although their guitarist was a long-time member of Queensryche, don't assume that the music of the Stick People is based in challenging prog metal.

While they do indeed have elements of metal in their sound, it's more of a "party-hearty" metal vibe, with energetic punk rock added to the mix as well.

For the proof, all you have to do is surf on over to iTunes and give a listen to the group's digital single, 'Think About That' for the sonic proof!

Comprised of band members Stephen Duffy on Lead Vocals/Guitars, Mike Stone on Vocals/Guitars (the group's aforementioned "Queensryche connection"), Billy Close on Bass, Bernie Godwin on Lead Guitar, and Frankie Anthony on Drums, the group recently signed with EFM/Bungalo/Universal Music Group Distribution.

Mike Stone recently sat down with Exclusive Magazine to chat about the band, their music, and, of course, ... Penguins!.

Taking it from the top, and your band name is very reminiscent of what some artists used to call the subjects they quickly brushed into their landscape paintings. Any connection, perhaps? "Everyone can relate to Stick People."

Being that your bio suggests that you are a band with a "party-hearty" metal vibe, I was wondering just what exactly that meant, musically?! "The music is fun!"

I was wondering if there had been times when recording new songs for the debut album that you had tried to lengthen them, give them more depth, a life of their own re: more Queensryche-ish, perhaps?! "In punk rock circles, these songs are on the long side."

And, being that we're not called Exclusive Magazine for nothing, does this being-worked-on for 2011 debut album have a working title yet, perhaps? "We were toying with the title "Exclusive Magazine is Really Cool" but the jury is still out!"

Indeed, with regard this upcoming album, how easy or hard is it to create a new, vibrant, wanted-by-the-public sound that both builds on and surpasses the musical wonderments and accomplishments that preceded it within the industry? "I believe the goal is to create music that you enjoy yourself. If others like it great!"

Do you have a favorite track from this upcoming album? One that means more to you than the others you're creating, for some reason? "'Think About That,' the current single."

You have some confirmed live dates Vince Neil (completed) and with Quiet Riot coming up - but what are you expecting from the shows ... and do you have any fears over them? "We are planning to throw down the rock and have a good time doing it. Fear is an illusion."

If asked to record one for charity, what '80s (and possibly cheesy!) pop/rock song would you love to cover today...and why? "'Video Killed the Radio Star' - it's a cool song and its true!"

Lastly, and throwing you a journalistic curve ball, Exclusive Magazine loves Penguins...do you? "Yes. Doesn't everyone love Penguins?!"

The Stick People on Facebook

So, if you would like to win a copy of their upcoming new CD, and you think you know all there is to know about the band, just answer this easy question: The Stick People was assembled by the groups producer in 2008 and 2009, with the exception of Billy Close who was brought in by Mike Stone in 2010. What was/is the name of that very same producer?!

Send us your answers and if you're correct you'll be in the running to win one of these wonderful new CDs! Just send us an e:mail here before December 15th with your answer and the subject title CONTEST: STICK PEOPLE CDs to: exclusivemagazine@flash.net
