'Rocky Mountain High: Live In Japan'
(John Denver / DVD / NR / 2009 / Eagle Records)

Overview: Arguably one of the most beloved American performers of the 20th century, John Denver had a career that saw him sell over 40 million albums worldwide while winning numerous awards. 'Rocky Mountain High: Live In Japan' is a 1981 concert from his 7-show tour of Japan and features a wonderful selection of hits from his career.

DVD Verdict: The late John Denver was one of the most popular acoustic artists of the 1970s in terms of record sales, recording and releasing around 300 songs, of which about 200 were composed by him.

Filmed in 1981, it is interesting to watch how the technology to film a concert advanced over the years, eventually the footage becomes more enjoyable to listen to, rather than to sit and watch an incredibly talented man stand in front of a microphone and strum his guitar over and over.

The concert from Japan is awkward in places, out of focus in others, but vocally faultless as we are brought 4 of his 5 #1 hits: "Annie's Song", "Calypso", "Sunshine On My Shoulders" & "Thank God I'm A Country Boy".

As noted, Denver's voice is perfect, beautiful to sit back and listen to, the bands' sound both crisp and clear. The band is tight and Denver’s vocals are dynamic, showing the world his passion and craft for music and story telling. If you are a fan, you need to add this to your collection immediately. This is a Full Screen Presentation (1.33:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of some Exclusive Interviews backstage and Personal Concert Cams!
