'Whitney Cummings: Money Shot'
(Whitney Cummings / DVD / R / 2011 / IMAGE Entertainment)
Overview: 'Money Shot' finds Cummings riffing on a wide range of topics chiefly, the differences between men and women and how both tend to behave in relationships. And before you roll your eyes at the very thought of another comic covering this well-worn territory, Cummings has found an approach to the material that's unique enough to make her take on it very compelling - trust me!
DVD Verdict: For some strange reason, Whitney Cummings is far pretty here than in real life! Sorry, and don't take that as rude, it's simply an observation that baffles me having sat through this hour of dehumanizing-men comedic "entertainment"!
But, and as far as her skills as a comedienne go, it's harder to find a funnier, sharper one. She takes elements of other great stand-up acts right now, changes them to fit her own punchlines and turns out something wholly satisfying and, at times, gut-bustingly funny.
At times it's like watching an amp'd up Sarah Silverman, but with George Carlin's genes! Her so-called "shock tactics" in her stand-up are simply 9/10 jibes at men and how dumb they are. Her overly-sarcastic nature and ranting ala Denis Leary (but with a muffler on!) is indeed funny though, from start to finish.
Ergo, and essentially, Whitney Cummings stand-up consists of pulling funny faces, laughing at her own jokes before she's told them, and being, well, bloody hilarious! She is quite easily one of the funniest comedienne's working today. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.77:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
