'The Penniless Princess - God's Little Girl'
(Animation / DVD / NR / 2012 / Big Idea)
Overview: Sweet Sara Crewe has everything a little girl could want - a loving family, lots of friends and a closet full of frilly dresses! But when life takes a turn and Sara goes from riches to rags, will she realize that her true worth lies not in what she has, but what's in her heart?
DVD Verdict: In truth, our entire family are huge fans of Veggie Tales and were excited to see a new one out. Indeed, my daughter likes the original 'Little Princess' so we thought we would love this. Having it sent for review was perfect then for all of us!
Saying that 'The Penniless Princess' is sweet is like telling you something you already were going to expect. But it is also unlike the others. It has very little, if any humor. The silly song was beyond silly to the point of just plain dumb - and a little annoying, sorry to say re: the religious aspect of the song.
That aside, the story is based on the 'Little Princess' and has an excellent message about being God's Princess no matter how much wealth you have. Every girl is a princess to God and my daughter left the movie understanding that (although, as mentioned above, that one song was just so wrong to have included.) This is a Widescreen Presentation 1.85:1 enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
