'Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum: Meet Xavier'
(DVD / G / 2020 / PBS Kids)
Overview: Follow the adventures of Xavier Riddle, his sister Yadina, and their friend Brad as they face problems and turn to the Secret Museum to help solve them!
DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, 'Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum' debuted on PBS KIDS in November 2019.
The series is based on the children’s book series Ordinary People Change the World by New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer and illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos.
It is designed to teach kids about influential historical figures and living heroes and some of the key experiences that shaped their lives, while emphasizing important social emotional concepts and positive character traits; such as courage, resilience, and commitment to setting and accomplishing goals.
Here in 'Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum: Meet Xavier,' we watch along as Marie Curie shows Brad that he should always follow his dreams, and as George Washington Carver teaches Xavier to take care of the earth.
Oh, and Charles Dickens even shows Yadina that she doesn't need new toys - her imagination is just as fun!
Ok, so, let's get this straight from the start and so for all the people I've encountered that make this same "complaint," yeah, I don't get it either!
We have Johann Sebastian Bach, Harry Houdini, Helen Keller, and Florence Nightingale highly featured on the colorful front cover art, yet their episodes are not on this DVD!
That said, and given that this is actually the very first DVD for the show, all I can say to those people is that perhaps the next DVD release will feature them?!
Regardless, 'Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum: Meet Xavier' features some wonderful teaching tips, and historical figure bio-sketches to support students’ social-emotional, literacy, and social studies skills.
Here on this new DVD we get three (3) rather delightful, and very colorful adventures:
I Am Marie Curie
I Am George Washington Carver
I Am Charles Dickens
This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
