'Mock & Roll'
(Roger Earl, Michael Stanley, Alex Ortiz, Aditi Molly Bhanja, Chris Wolfe, et al / DVD / NR / 2019 / Soundview Media)
Overview: Ohio parody band Liberty Mean is tapped out, clueless and struggling to raise the needed money to get to the South by Southwest Music Festival where their dreams can become reality.
Unfortunately, bad decisions and absurd circumstances lead the band down a dark and stormy road in this frenetic caricature of rock and roll reverie.
DVD Verdict: For a native Ohioan who frequents downtown Columbus, the background, sets, as well as the T-shirts, made this a film to enjoy. Some difficulties arose with being imprisoned at a historic site that holds no prisoners (the Licking County Historic Jail), but an overall fun movie to watch.
I'm hard to please, so nothing knocked me out of my chair, but there were quite a few magical moments of easy laughter, and one rewind to verify a scene!
A bit overly silly, as the troupe was then allowed into a stairway (one that is actually marked "Stairway"). Not really the best of doctors offices, so a few of the sets needed a bit of touchup work!
In truth, this film packs a lot of laughs and the cast is terrific. The witty, fast-moving dialogue kept my attention from beginning to end. The only downside is I can’t stop singing the parody lyrics!
A fantastic mockumentary that exemplifies everything a mockumentary should be. A fantastic cast with likable performances topped off with a fantastic soundtrack re: The Black Owls, Foghat and Cheap Trick!
Think of it as: Spinal Tap meets the Monkees! Remarkable. Fun. From start to finish, I enjoyed it. I know you will too. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
'Mock & Roll' [DVD] is out September 17th, 2019 via Soundview Media.
