'Life After Flash' [Blu-ray]
(Sam J. Jones, Melody Anderson, Brian Blessed, Topol, Peter Wyngarde, et al / Blu-ray / NR / (2017) 2019 / Cleopatra Entertainment - MVD Visual)

Overview: 'Life After Flash' looks at the roller coaster life of Sam J. Jones since his role as Flash Gordon, his struggles and successes, and the aftermath of when he went up against one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood.

Blu-ray Verdict: Gordon's ALIVE! In one of the more fascinating insights into days gone by intersecting with modern times (ala Flash Gordon and the oh-so-many "references" to him in the new Guardians of The Galaxy movies), 'Life After Flash' is far from a run-of-the-mill documentary.

Sam J. Jones himself asks the inevitable question What has life after Flash Gordon been like for me? and as much as a lot is revealed here - his struggles, his successes, the whole aftermath of when he went up against one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood, etc. - we also get (in the wondrous collection of Special Features Brian May talking about his and Freddie Mercury’s contributions to the soundtrack!

Chock full of behind-the-scenes prop ORIGINAL reveals - such as the Hawk Blaster used by Prince Vultan himself, Brian Blessed (who is also in amongst the Special Features) - the documentary is so very, very colorful in all aspects.

Full of comic convention material filmed over the past few years, even the director from the original movie, Mike Hodges admits (on old school VHS tape, one imagines) that the film was based off a comic strip, so his characters were pretty one dimensional.

As for that infamous run in with one of the most powerful producers in Hollywood, that was when Jones went head-to-head, literal toe-to-toe with the producer of the film, Dino De Laurentiis; which ultimately meant (as Jones lost the battle of wills) that he said goodbye to his studio/set family and his place in Hollywood.

Oh, and back to Brian May - as it's my favorite of the Special Features - and when he's describing (whilst WEARING a bright yellow Flash tshirt!) how the Queen soundtrack for the movie came together, he sits at his piano and pecks out some notes from the now infamous “Flash’s Theme” ... and suddenly all I can hear is Flash! Aah-aaah! He’ll save every one of us! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Bonus Features of:

Brian Blessed on Hawkman Filming
Rich Fulcher & Jason Lenzi: "Tell Me More About This Man Houdini"
Extended Comic Con Sequence
Sam J. Jones On His Move Into Acting
Melody Anderson on Improvisation, and More!
