'Showdown: Special Collector's Edition'
(Billy Blanks, Christine Taylor, Kenn Scott, Brion James, James Lew, et al / Blu-ray / R / (1990) 2019 / MVD Rewind)

Overview: Ken Marks (Kenn Scott, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze) finds a dangerous enemy on his first day at his new school; an enemy who makes his living as the champion of an illegal fighting operation.

School janitor and ex-cop Billy Grant (Billy Blanks, The Last Boy Scout) trains Ken to defend himself. What Billy doesn't know is that the man behind it all is the one man from his past who wants him dead.

Blu-ray Verdict: With a combination of Billy Blanks, an engrossing storyline, Billy Blanks, 80's synthesizer music and Billy Blanks, 'Showdown' has easily emerged as the best movie of all time.

Did I mention Billy Blanks was in it? Well he is, and he chews up the screen time by beating the hell out of anyone and everyone. He's a bad mother!

With those awful Flock of Seagulls hairdos and worse yet a wardrobe chock full of denim as far as the eye can see, this early '90s film (that so badly wanted to be an '80s gem look wise) might have gotten people thinking it was simply a 'Karate Kid' knockoff, but was far, far from it.

In fact, it's actually two movies. One is about Billy Blanks' character (a janitor) who is rather good at kicking butts and the other is about a high school doofus who likes Christine Taylor (Ben Stiller's wife in real life) and who is willing to use his lame karate skills to win her over.

That doofus is played by John Mallory Asher (Mike) and he might well remain that way throughout, but he does add some wondrous funny and sarcastic moments of one-line joy too! Lee (played by Patrick Kilpatrick) should have had more lines or better ones.

In my eyes, he is a good actor and was great in 'Death Warrant' as the psycho. Yeah I know both guys needed their own respective nemesis, but he was as unbelievable as half of the ones who played Tom's friends, Rob (Michael Cavalieri) and Gina (Seidy Lopez); but I guess it's different strokes for different folks! This is a brand new High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) presentation enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
