'Roadhouse 2: Last Call' [Blu-ray]
(Jonathon Schaech, Ellen Hollman, Jake Busey, Will Patton, Louis Herthum, et al / Blu-ray / R / (2006) 2019 / MVD Marquee Collection)

Overview: Shane Tanner (Johnathon Schaech, That Thing You Do!), son of the legendary "Cooler" Dalton, is an undercover DEA agent with all the right moves. He's put away his share of dealers, but hasn't made a big-time bust.

When a deadly drug runner begins terrorizing his uncle Nate's (Will Patton, Armageddon) bar in Louisiana, Shane leaves New York and heads south, determined to settle the score.

Blu-ray Verdict: OK, well, to be fair, following up a cult classic like the original 'Road House' is no easy task. Now subtract Swayze from the equation and you get a monumental task!

So with Patrick not on board whose bonehead idea was it to proceed anyway and make this piece of garbage? Personally, I cannot even blame the poor director (Scott Ziehl) as he was just doing what he was paid to do.

Watching this Blu-ray last night with friends, and having never seen it (or even bloody heard of it) before, I was actually very shocked they got Will Patton (Armageddon) to jump on board!

Johnathon Schaech did an OK job with the lead, but the writing was atrocious. Turning down his partner brunette bombshell (Crystal Mantecon) in the film's first five minutes made me want to punch it out of the player right then and there!

But I stuck with the film hoping to catch a glimpse of that great cheesy humor that worked so well with the Double Deuce. No such luck though, sorry.

Weirdly, the original cover art of the 2006 DVD once showed these two stacked blondes who make one 10 second appearance in the film! The rebooted art work now only wisely features Schaech, arms still crossed.

Co-star Ellen Hollman actually puts in a decent performance, but again the effort is futile in a piece of garbage and disgrace such as this!

I mean, seriously, has Jake Busey ever been cast in a decent film? Could they not pull at least a few actors in from the first film for some kind of nostalgia treatment?

In closing, and since the director is best known for 'Cruel Intentions 3', it should have come as no surprise to me that Road House 2' was as plainly bad as it turned out to be.

But, come on now, we all LOVED the original ("Pain don't hurt. Give me the biggest guy in the world; you smash his knee and he'll drop like stone", Dalton from the original - of which there are no such crushingly observant and brilliant lines to be found anywhere here in the "sequel"), so that's why I went into this with my hopes elevated. Bad move, dude. Bad move! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the "Special Feature" of an Original Trailer
