'A Chef's Life: The Final Harvest'
(DVD / G / 2019 / PBS)

Overview: After five seasons of 'A CHEF'S LIFE', Vivian hosts THE FINAL HARVEST, a farewell feast of epic proportions.

The show's most beloved personalities share intimate moments, along with a series-worth of memorable flashbacks.

A fitting sign-off to the series, friends new and old take a seat at 'A CHEF'S LIFE' final harvest table, bringing to a close this extended love letter to eastern North Carolina.

DVD Verdict: I love this show! It is a feast for the eyes, the mind and the senses!

Vivian Howard, the chef, has such a lovely, easy going manner about her, while managing a very complicated life. From the very first season, where she and her husband, Ben, are new parents living in a very rural area and running a high end restaurant, they have always been completely focused on showcasing the best of what local farmers have to offer for each season: vegetables, meat, fruit, seafood ... everything.

Indeed, what I love is that we get to go with Vivian to meet the farmers, see where they produce what they are growing, appreciate the gifts that they offer and understand the special magic she sees in what they have produced.

Even better, we've always then been allowed to go inside the restaurant kitchen and witness the additional magic that she applies to what just came out of the field.

Bonus is that every now and then we get a recipe from her and get to watch her make it! Personally, I love that she includes local people in her life and business. They are wonderful and so is her restaurant and TV show. And this final viewing is now different, trust me.

This series finale begins as a tractor pushes through her family's cornfield to carve out the open-air dining room of Vivian's dreams. She gathers summer's last vegetables from Warren Brothers' farm for a batch of chow-chow.

Ms. Lillie hosts a biscuit-making class for the show's favorite characters. Vivian's parents, Mrs. Scarlett and Mr. John, reveal how Vivian's success has changed their family, and most importantly, made them proud.

The show's most beloved personalities share intimate moments, along with a series-worth of memorable flashbacks. Ben reveals an unexpected tenderness when describing the impact of 'A Chef's Life' on his family and community.
