'Nature: Raising the Dinosaur Giant'
(Sir David Attenborough / DVD / NR / 2016 / PBS)

Overview: Have scientists discovered the biggest animal to have ever walked the planet? Deep in a South American desert, a giant is being awakened after 101 million years of sleep.

DVD Verdict: A few years ago in the Argentinian desert, a shepherd spotted the tip of a gigantic fossil bone sticking out of a rock. Sir David Attenborough takes us through the forensic investigation of the fossils, in a bid to find out more about this new dinosaur. With the help of 3D scanning, CGI visuals, and animation, the completed dinosaur giant is unveiled, the largest creature ever to roam the Earth!

In truth, you know you have an incredible show on your hands when the UK's very own Sir David Attenborough is at the narrative helm! For those not in the know (and shame on you, those people!), is an English broadcaster and naturalist. Indeed, he is best known for writing and presenting the nine Life series, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, which collectively form a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on the planet.

As for 'Nature: Raising the Dinosaur Giant', well, we quickly learn, and see that Paleontologists have discovered a giant femur – the largest dinosaur bone that has ever been unearthed! Another 200 bones from the same species are also discovered and so Sir David Attenborough guides us through the remarkable journey of "waking the giant" as it happens.

Along with Sir David and his team of Paleontologists we begin connecting the dots, translating the paleo jargon and explaining the revelations using living examples, other dinosaur discoveries and CGI visuals. As a finale, and not to give too much away, but Sir David "unveils" the completed giant - and boy, is it a BIG one! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
