Blu-Ray Verdict: 'Turn It Up! A Celebration of the Electric Guitar' (narrated by actor/musician Kevin Bacon) is the story of the electric guitar: from its invention in the 1930s straight through to the digital guitars of the future. Through a series of guitar stories, we will meet all kinds of people - from rock stars, to congressmen, CEOs, and teenage virtuosos - to try to understand their emotional connection to their guitars and their quest for perfect tone.
Personally, I have loved all music that comes complete with an electric guitar so this quite brilliant round up of some of the legends behind those now infamous riffs is a very welcome addition to my life, let alone my Blu-ray collection.
The players, the instruments, the history all welcome me in, decades later here on 'Turn It Up! A Celebration of the Electric Guitar' and with so many great stories to tell, and all via the narratingly smooth tone of the never-really-gets-too-excited Kevin Bacon, we learn all about how easy it is to simply coax, cajole, beg, bend, stroke, strum and thump an instrument in order to produce evocative sound that, simply put, can move the soul of even the dead!
Directed by Robert Radler, his production team, Kevin Bacon and the guitar players from all walks of life all did a fantastic job of illustrating both the guitar's history and what it can do for music. The documentary is well filmed and edited, blending together each player's story along with some history and yet, of course, some sweet beautiful guitar music included. The words spoken, the guitar licks created, the stories unfolding, it is all just seamlessly here.

King, Robby Krieger, Nancy Wilson, Jeff Skunk Baxter, Les Paul, Steve Lukather, John 5, Albert Lee, Paul Stanley, Johnny A., Jerry Cantrell and more, 'Turn It Up!
