'Last Days of the Nazis'
(2-Disc DVD / NR / 2015 / PBS)
Overview: Rarely broadcast on TV, this dark history of Nazism is told from a different perspective - the Nazi's themselves. In 1945, the Allies rounded up and interrogated thousands of party officials, war criminals, advocates, and even ex-Nazis. These interrogations are a fascinating, largely forgotten part of the historical record we know of today.
DVD Verdict: This incredible, in depth documentary, 'Last Days of the Nazis' uses these abovementioned interrogations to dramatically bring to life accounts by Nazi death camp commandants, Nazi doctors, generals, architects, and members of the Hitler Youth. It is an inside look at the minds and motivations of the most evil regime in history. Basically, this is (near enough) exactly what the enemy told us.
As we progress though this compelling, albeit thoroughly dark viewing into a part of our world history that rarely gets such a light shone on it, we encounter such prominent subjects as leading propagandist Julius Streicher; Albert Speer, Hitler's architect and Minister of Armaments; the commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Hoss; BDM leader Melita Maschmann; and Nazi doctor Karl Gebhardt. Through chilling testimony, this graphic inside look into the minds and motivations of eyewitness participants presents a horrifying, simply horrifying portrait of the most evil regime in history. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
