'The Vampire Diaries: Season 6' [Blu ray]
(Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, Ian Somerhalder, Steven R. McQueen, Kat Graham, et al / 4-Disc Blu ray / NR / 2015 / Warner Bros.)

Overview: 'The Vampire Diaries' continues its sixth season with more delicious drama to sink your teeth into!

Blu ray Verdict: In season five, after a passionate summer with Damon, Elena headed to Whitmore College with Caroline, not knowing Bonnie sacrificed her life for Jeremy's. Meanwhile, Stefan and Caroline's friendship deepened as they stood up to the Travelers, a nomadic witch tribe driven to strip Mystic Falls of magic and cast out its supernatural residents.

In the shocking season finale, Damon, fearing he would lose his loved ones on the crumbling Other Side, made a huge sacrifice to bring them all back — with catastrophic and heartbreaking results.

Here in the sixth season, it follows the characters' journey back to each other as they explore the duality of good versus evil inside themselves. Matt Davis reprises his role as Alaric Saltzman, recently returned from The Other Side, but of course we endure the departure of a major character who will turn lives upside down ... let alone leaves us asking what happened to Mystic Falls!

Admittedly, 'The Vampire Diaries' started terribly, full of clichés and cheesy connotations with vampires. But, like most true fans can now attest, after that bumpy opening season, the show took a different direction and moved away from traditional vampire themes. Ergo, it now totally excels and has turned into a very exciting and watchable television show - with an incredibly good looking cast with very impressive acting!

The biggest standouts this year are Damon and Caroline who go through enormous emotional ups and down that were great to watch. Alaric is also back and as usual spends a lot time getting kicked in the teeth by life. Everyone enters a dark place sometime this year. Matt and Bonnie though begin to spiral into their own dark places due to the never ending beat downs they seem to take for being mortals among immortals. They have finally seemed to cross over emotionally from child to adult.

I also loved the new villains. Without giving too much away the witches we have seen in the past are nothing compared to what is coming, and the one leading them will hit close to home for the Salvatore brothers. There is laughter and sadness but overall everyone's lives are changed by the end of the season, and the tantalizing cliffhanger in the last 30 seconds only makes me want more!

In closing, 'The Vampire Diaries' is not like any other vampire production that I know of. Sure it is filled with humor, love, violence, sex, but all (Now) without the helping crutch of vampire clichés. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1:78.1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
