'Soundstage: Blues Summit Chicago 1974'
(Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Mike Bloomfield, Junior Wells, Dr. John et al / DVD / NR / 2015 / Legacy Recordings)

Overview: In July of 1974, a group of Chicago based blues artists, who had already achieved legendary status, gathered together with some of their younger blues brethren from all over the country to pay tribute to the man most responsible for bringing blues from the Mississippi Delta upriver to Chicago, Muddy Waters.

DVD Verdict: 'Soundstage: Blues Summit In Chicago, 1974' - the historic tribute to the great Muddy Waters, now presented for the very first time here on DVD - captures Muddy Waters along with his contemporaries Willie Dixon, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells and Pinetop Perkins. From the next generation of blues lovers and performers, Mike Bloomfield, Buddy Miles, Johnny Winter, Dr. John, Nick Gravenites are also featured, and they themselves, as you should all well know by now, were all on their way to becoming legends themselves.

An uncovered jewel for blues fans, this special concert release is a truly historic session that not only presented some of the greatest blues classics ever written, but a never-to-be-forgotten tribute to a remarkable artist. George "Buddy" Guy's music is often labelled Chicago blues, his style is unique and separate. His music varies from the most traditional, deepest blues to a creative, unpredictable and radical gumbo of the blues, avant rock, soul and free jazz that morphs at every show he has ever performed.
