'Beside Still Waters'
(Ryan Eggold, Reid Scott, Beck Bennett, Will Brill, Brett Dalton, et al / DVD / NR / 2015 / Cinedigm)
Overview: When Daniel (Ryan Eggold) invites his oldest friends to spend one last weekend at his parents' lake house, secrets are confessed, romances are rekindled, and a particularly epic game of Whiskey Slaps is played.
DVD Verdict: 'Besides Still Water,' which won the jury award for Best Narrative Feature film at the 2013 Austin Film Festival, is a film that once you start watching, realize bears a lot of similarities to the classic 'The Big Chill' - a group of old friends that hadn't seen each other in a long time, some trying to rekindle old romances, etc.
That said, and regardless, it tells the story of a group of high school friends who gather at a lake house to morn the sudden loss of their dear friend/ex-boyfriend's parents. Emotions are high, as drinking games begin for a night of torrid fun. The announcement of an engagement as the ex-girlfriend arrives with the uninvited groom puts the friends into a defensive challenge. Things get completely out of control from there, due in no small part to the alcohol, but for what happens next, well, no spoilers here, sorry!
