'IMAX Island of Lemurs: Madagascar'
(Morgan Freeman, Patricia Wright, Hantanirina Rasamimanana / Blu ray+DVD / G / 2015 / Warner Bros.)
Overview: Fall in love with nature's explorers as they leap, sing and dance their way into your hearts! Narrated by Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman, Island of Lemurs: Madagascar will take you and your family on a spectacular journey into the wondrous world of these ultimate survivors.
Blu ray Verdict: Millions of years ago, lemurs arrived as castaways on the island of Madagascar. Today, Dr. Patricia C. Wright is on a mission to ensure that these strange and endangered creatures survive in the modern world.
Narrated by Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman, 'IMAX Island of Lemurs: Madagascar' is just perfect family movie night material. Sure it only lasts for some 39 minutes, but the extras included (see below) are well worth their own collective weight in delightful gold, trust me.
As mentioned, the documentary takes place on Madagascar, and focuses on lemurs. The film truly highlights Dr. Wright's efforts on her mission to help lemurs survive in the modern world. The documentary also focuses on the endangered levels of lemur species, who are losing their populations due to agricultural fires.
Moreover a happy, fun, joyous documentary than anything else though, 'IMAX Island of Lemurs: Madagascar' still manages to balance the requisite loveable, cuddly lemur moments with another, and yet totally unsurprising reminder of man’s capacity for selfishness and destruction.
If you need more proof to watch this, aside from the fact it's narrated by that silver-tongued Morgan 'March of the Penguins' Freeman, 'Island of Lemurs' was nominated for the Best Documentary and Best Animation/Family poster at the 15th Golden Trailer Awards.
Finally, and although Mark Mothersbaugh scored the film, the main track "Koba" was written by Hanitra Rasoanaivo (as Hanitrarivo Rasoanaivo) and performed by Tarika. I just thought you should know as come the end of this documentary, you might well have been asking yourself that very same question; it's just that good.
