'Nazi Mega Weapons - Season 2'
(2-DVD / NR / 2015 / PBS)

Overview: In the quest for world domination, the Nazis built some of the biggest and deadliest pieces of military hardware in history. This series includes episodes on the world's first cruise missile, the deadly human machine of the SS and Hitler's Megaships.

DVD Verdict: Overall, 'Nazi Mega Weapons - Season 2' is a very informative series about several programs the Nazi regime pursued to improve their chances of winning World War II. It also was very dark and disturbing on how they used prisoners to achieve those goals. On two discs with three episodes per disc - V1: Hitler's Vengeance Missile, The Wolf's Lair, The SS, Hitler's Siegfried Line, Hitler's Megaships, and Kamikaze Suicide Bombers - In terms of nuts and bolts of the weapons systems, the series is very interesting. As history, it's mixed quality.

And that may be just down to the fact that 'Nazi Mega Weapons - Season 2' comes across exactly like a History Channel produced show, with a combination of history, CGI, and reality TV style fake drama. That aside, as actual footage has been shown over and over on the History Channel for decades anyway, the research is narrow and the series sometimes interviews people with questionable expertise.

But, here in 'Nazi Mega Weapons - Season 2' we discover that in retaliation for devastating Allied bombing raids on German cities, Hitler orders the development of a groundbreaking weapon. This is the story of one of the most ambitious projects of the Third Reich: Hitler's Vengeance weapon, the V1.

In another episode, as European countries fall like dominoes to the all-conquering German armies, Hitler becomes convinced of his own military genius. He plans to invade Russia and orders the construction of a huge, heavily protected command complex of bunkers and buildings named the Wolf's Lair.

And as Hitler's power grows within Nazi Germany, so does that of the SS. From its humble beginnings as Hitler's personal body guard, the SS under the leadership of Heinrich Himmler becomes a terrifying cult that engineers Hitler's vision for a new Germany. By the start of the war, the SS holds sway in politics, police and security and is responsible for the creation of the concentration camps. Its power, influence and terror spread with the creation of a military wing: the Waffen SS. As we know now, by the end of the war, the SS has grown into a machine that controls of every aspect of everyday Germany. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
