'Longmire - The Complete Third Season'
(Robert Taylor, Katee Sackhoff, Lou Diamond Phillips, Bailey Chase, Cassidy Freeman, et al / 2-DVD / NR / 2015 / Warner Bros. Home Entertainment)

Overview: Wyoming Sheriff Walt Longmire is back for the third season of hit Big Sky crime drama 'LONGMIRE.' In this gripping two-disc, 10-episode set, characters must test their courage and face challenges that will ultimately define them.

DVD Verdict: OK, in truth, and as much as I'm now gonna sound like a complete fan boy, this is one of the best series' I've had the pleasure to watch in a long time! 'Longmire' features great interplay between the main characters and is set in the great, simply breathtakingly great outdoors. I've only now seen all three seasons and all are very, very good indeed. Addictive, even.

By the way,If you're a fan of the C.J Box Joe Pickett books you'll love this series. Robert Taylor's depiction of a taciturn almost grumpy sheriff is top notch and so is Lou Diamond Phillips' character plus a great supporting cast. I have not read the books, but they must be an excellent read if they can come up with this. Brings back memories of the great long running western series of years back.

To catch you up from last season, Walt Longmire (Taylor) and his deputies each braved a storm ... and did it nobly. But for every storm, there is an aftermath. After winning his heated re-election as Absaroka County sheriff against his ambitious deputy Branch Connally (Bailey Chase), Longmire faces a stampede of problems both personal and professional. Branch is mysteriously shot on "the Rez" by the White Warrior spirit of a dead man, while Longmire's loyal friend Henry Standing Bear (Lou Diamond Phillips), is arrested in connection to the murder of Longmire's wife's killer.

Longmire's daughter, Cady (Cassidy Freeman), decides to take up Henry's case and fight in court to clear Henry's name. Meanwhile, his deputy Vic Moretti (Katee Sackhoff) sees the return of a stalker from her Philadelphia past. Longmire must navigate these taxing situations as he butts heads with tribal police, big money connections and longstanding enemies.

In short, 'Longmire' epitomizes how cable television has not only caught up with its network peers but in many cases, completely surpassed it. Thanks to series like this there is finally well produced television to watch amid the long summer months of network reruns. This show will appeal to fans of crime dramas, western, and all Tony Hillerman fans who enjoy a well scripted mystery.

Indeed, with 'Longmire' now wrapped on its third season and the story writing, plot twists, character development and the deepening intensity as good, if not better than ever this demands a fourth season. Let alone a fifth, sixth, etc.!

10 One-Hour Episodes: The White Warrior, Of Children and Travelers, Miss Cheyenne, In the Pines, Wanted Man, Reports of My Death, Population 25, Harvest, Counting Coup, and Ashes to Ashes.

BTW, did you know that upon its premiere in June 2012, the series became A&E TV's most watched original series launch of all time with 4.1 million total viewers. No, nor did I! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Feature:

THE GHOST IN THE STORM - Ghosts exist in this season of Longmire. The storm defined the characters, but what's left is the aftermath, the mysterious conflict which they must face. Can Walt, Henry, Branch and the others find peace once they confront their ghosts?
