'Austin City Limits - Celebrates 40 Years'
(Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Foo Fighters, Jimmie Vaughan, et al / NR / 2014 / PBS)

Overview: The landmark public television series Austin City Limits has presented the best in contemporary and classic music for four decades. ACL observed its birthday in 2014 with Austin City Limits Celebrates 40 Years, a special featuring great performances by Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Foo Fighters, Jimmie Vaughan, Alabama Shakes and more.

DVD Verdict: To give you the length, depth and reach of this incredible TV show, Austin City Limits (ACL) is an American public television music program recorded live in Austin, Texas, by Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) Public television member station KLRU, and broadcast on many PBS stations around the United States.

The show helped Austin to become widely known as the "Live Music Capital of the World", and is the only television show to receive the National Medal of Arts, which it was awarded in 2003. It also won a rare institutional Peabody Award in 2011 "for its more than three decades of presenting and preserving eclectic American musical genres."

Impressed yet? Well, initially created to celebrate the music of Texas — featuring western swing, Texas blues, Tejano music, progressive country, and rock n' roll — the series has gone on to feature regional, national and international artists performing a wide range of musical styles, including jazz, alternative country, alternative rock, folk music, and jam band. The show also inspired the creation of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, an annual live music festival at Zilker Park in Austin.

And yes, Austin City Limits is the longest-running music series in American television history! This 40th Anniversary showcase brings together such featured great performances by artists such as Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, Lyle Lovett, Foo Fighters, Jimmie Vaughan, Alabama Shakes and oh so many more! Hosted by Oscar-winning actor/musician Jeff Bridges and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow, Austin City Limits Celebrates 40 Years honors not only ACL, but also the power of music to entertain, inspire, and move millions every Saturday night. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
