'My Little Pony, Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks’
(Tara Strong, Ashleigh Ball, Andrea Libman, et al / Blu ray + DVD / NR / 2014 / Shout! Kids)

Overview: In Equestria, the newly crowned Princess Twilight Sparkle is still trying to adjust to her new status and wings. However, Sunset Shimmer a renegade former student of Princess Celestia, steals her magic crown and escapes to another world.

Blu ray Verdict: OK, to bring all you “newbies” up to date on the duel plot of this In the first tale, ‘My Little Pony, Equestria Girls’ (2013), Twilight Sparkle’s crown was stolen from the Crystal Empire, and she pursued the thief, Summer Shimmer, into an alternate world where she finds herself turned into … a teenager! To regain her crown and return to Equestria, Twilight had to learn how to fit into this strange, new world and defeat Sunset Shimmer in a competition to become crowned Princess of the Fall Formal at Canterlot High.

Now, the girls of Canterlot High are back, and this time they’re rocking guitars! In ‘My Little Pony, Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks,’ Canterlot High (CHS) is hosting a musical showcase, and Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Fluttershy are going to be performing with their new band, The Rainbooms. But when The Dazzlings, a new girl group, arrive at CHS and convince everyone to turn the friendly showcase into a Battle of the Bands, tensions mount between the competing musical acts.

Funnily enough, and as revealed in the audio commentary of the DVD, 'Equestria Girls,' at first, had no intention of becoming a franchise and the thought of a sequel did not cross Meghan McCarthy's mind. Additionally, Sunset did not become a main character until the second draft of the script.

The DVD commentary also points out that the midnight snack scene between Twilight and Sunset was actually added late into the film's production! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
