'Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special 2'
(Seth Green, Matthew Senreic, et al / DVD / NR / 2014 / Warner Bros.)
Overview: Robot Chicken has fun with the DC Comics universe once again, but this time around, the villains take charge of the narrative, and their unpredictable tale takes them from the swamps to the sky to the beach, where they finally face a mind-boggling threat to their very existence!
DVD Verdict: For those not in the know, 'Robot Chicken' is an American stop motion animated comedy television series, created and executive produced by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich along with co-head writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root.
The writers, especially Green, also provide many of the voices. Senreich, Goldstein, and Root were formerly writers for the popular action figure hobbyist magazine ToyFare. 'Robot Chicken' has won an Annie Award and three Emmy Awards thus far.
With the opening 'Robot Chicken' written and performed by Les Claypool, what we now get is 'Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special 2' on DVD. Old-school stop-motion animation and fast-paced satire are the hallmarks of this eclectic show and they are all here, in full force. Action figures find new life as players in frenetic sketch-comedy vignettes that skewer TV, movies, music, and celebrities. It's television especially formulated for the Attention Deficit Disorder generation.
In 'Robot Chicken: DC Comics Special 2,' we take a peek at what it's like working in the Hall of Doom, the grief Batman goes through whenever he has to ride in one of Green Lantern's power ring bubbles, the origin of Starro, and what happens when the DC villains end up on the same beach as the DC heroes at spring break!
