'Thick As a Brick Live in Iceland' [Blu-ray]
(Ian Anderson / Blu ray / NR / 2014 / Eagle Vision)

Overview: 'Thick As a Brick Live in Iceland' marks the first time Thick As A Brick and Thick As A Brick 2: Whatever Happened To Gerald Bostock? have been offered in a combined set; resulting in a superb presentation of the complete story of Gerald Bostock.

Blu ray Verdict: For those lovingly not in the know, Gerald Bostock is a fictional character created by Ian Anderson for his band Jethro Tull's 1972 concept album, Thick as a Brick. The character is also the focus of Anderson's 2012 solo album, Thick as a Brick 2, as well as its 2014 follow-up, Homo Erraticus.

OK, now that's all out of the way, let's proceed. Recorded live in Iceland (!) back in 2012, 'Thick As a Brick Live' this SD Blu-ray edition is just a joy to watch unfold. Using, and then following on from Jethro Tull's Prog Folk/Progressive Rock elements, what Anderson did here re: taking both albums on the road to present the complete narrative live was audacious and inspired.

Watching him gig onstage - although not as much as one would have hoped for / expected, the flutist Ian Anderson and his backing band - Scott Hammond on drums, percussion; David Goodier on bass guitar, glockenspiel; John O'Hara on keyboards, accordion; Florian Opahle on electric guitar; and Ryan O'Donnell on vocals - are bonded musically as one from the very off. Indeed, once 'From A Pebble Thrown' has risen up to greet the devoted Icelandic audience, you are thrown back immediately to those days of JT yore.

Combining music, video and even mime to bring Gerald's tale to life, 'Thick As A Brick Live' quite clearly shows that you're never too old to rock 'n' roll! And yes, that's a Jethro Tull/Ian Anderson in-joke, sorry!

This is the SD Blu-ray edition, which offers standard definition picture but hi-res audio, while the 144 minute show is also available on normal DVD. Additionally, the audio is being released across a two-CD set on the same day. There appears to be no deluxe book/CD/blu-ray-type combo, so two separate purchases may be in order if you want the CDs and dvd/blu-ray.

This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.77:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Special Features of:
