'Once Upon a Time: The Complete First Season'
(Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Lana Parrilla, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore, et al / 5-Disc Blu ray / PG / 2012 / ABC Studios)

Overview: Relive the complete first season of ABC's Once Upon A Time, the hit series that boasts unforgettable characters and a tangled web of romance, action and enchantment. Immerse yourself in the magic and mystery of Storybrooke - a sleepy little town where every fairytale character you've ever known is frozen in time and trapped between two worlds, victims of an evil curse.

Blu ray Verdict: For all thoe not in the know, 'Once Upon a Time' is a (fantastic) retelling of Snow White - along with characters from other beloved fairy tales. Beloved characters such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rumplestiltskin, etc. And also some from children stories such as Pinocchio! The story takes place in the present day in a town called Storybrook, Maine.

And the spin, you ask? Well, in the past is a parallel world where the characters lived before the Evil Queen's curse stole their happy endings and sent them to our world. However, here in the present, all the Fairy Tale characters have with no recollection of their past and, as time has stopped, they don't age! I know, cool, right!

But this changes when Henry, an 11 years old boy who is Snow White grandchild and has been adopted by the Evil Queen, escapes the town and, after finding his mother, Emma Swan, brings her with him back to Storybrook. Henry learns of the curse in the book his teacher Mary Margaret (Snow White) gave to him. He knows that only Emma, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, can break the curse. But no one believes his stories. No one but his adoptive mother, the Evil Queen and present day major, who is intent on sending Emma away.

Now trust me here, the storyline is no where near as complicated as it sounds above, but at least I gave you the true rundown of the series' premise. Indepth, sure, but fun, you betcha.

Now, let's have a look at who plays who. Well, the always-adorable Ginnifer Goodwin plays Snow White - and totally looks and acts the part to a tee. Robert Carlyle is bit of a show stealer though as Rumplestiltskin as he nails the part every time. True he's a tad bit over the top with the laugh he does, but it's all fun and games. Jennifer Morrison as Bail Bondsman Emma Swan seems to be slowly stealing the show here - especially in all the ads - and Lana Parilla as Regina Mills, the Mayor of Storybrooke, is sternly precise in her casting also.

Indeed, the rest of the casting is just as good, but what really makes this show a keeper is the writing. I love how they switch back and forth from the real world to the fantasy world. It may sound like it jumps around, but it doesn't seem like that at all. It's very easy to follow and the scenes between the two worlds are always linked and play an important part in the storyline.

Sure it's no 'Grimm' (a TV show with a harder Fairy Tale edge to be true, but more my cup o' viewing tea at night!), but then again it never sets out to be. These are all Widescreen Presentations (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs is packed with Special Features such as:
