'Big Bad Wolves'
(Lior Ashkenazi, Rotem Keinan, Tzahi Grad, et al / DVD / R / 2014 / Magnolia Home Entertainment)
Overview: A series of brutal murders puts the lives of three men on a collision course: the father of the latest victim now out for revenge, a vigilante police detective operating outside the boundaries of law, and the main suspect in the killings - a religious studies teacher arrested and released due to a police blunder.
DVD Verdict: Well, I have to honestly say just how very surprised I was at how good and nerve-wrecking this movie was! Oh, as well as twisted, of course. I had read previously quite a few reports/reviews on it, which I normally don't like to do, and had thought I'd come to the conclusion that this was a comedy of sorts!
Wrong, although a dark comedy might be more correct - just! Anyway, with it's great combination of dark humor and gore it most certainly kept me entertained and on the edge of my seat - through most of the movie. An, oh boy, those last few minutes of the movie will have chills running up and down your spine, trust me!
Indeed, it's one of the best surprises I've had in a movie this year and is waaaaaay better than what you expect is coming! With great acting, a great script and even great music, it all comes together to bring a slew of seemingly unbreakable tension - until it comes to an end, of course!
