'Legit: - The Complete First Season'
(Jim Jefferies, et al / DVD / NR / 2014 / 20th Century Fox-MGM)

Overview: This outrageous new comedy stars Australian Jim Jefferies as an edgy, foul-mouthed stand-up comic living in Los Angeles, struggling to make his life and career more "legit." But every time Jim tries to do the right thing, his good deeds turn into wildly inappropriate and utterly hilarious escapades.

Blu ray Verdict: In truth, seeing what we see on TV these days re: so-called standard fare sitcoms, they do seem rather stretched. Like the premise is old, the acting isold, the network is old. So what the FX network has done has turned up the raunch factor, allowed for cutting edge performances to break through.

I mean, just look at other shows that the FX has unleashed upon us, all much the same ilk as just described: 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia,' 'Louie,' and even to a point, the animation of 'Archer.' Indeed, Comedy central has it's own variations on the theme also re: 'South Park and the brilliant 'Workaholics' and so it has been another breath of fresh air to witness the TV birth of Jim Jefferies in 'Legit.'

Indeed, Australian comedian Jim Jefferies may not be that well known to most all of you out there, let alone those that actually watch the aforementioned networks, but his close-to-the-bone comedic bent here is just so perfect for TV. Basically put, Jefferies is the anti-hero of the piece, and yet with no rules, seemingly at times barely any script, the 13 episodes are gems; one and all.

Sure there are moments when you cringe, moments when you shake your head and wonder how (or would) he got away with such outlandish moments on screen, but if comedy doesn't make you think, what's the point - right? In the show Jefferies is joined by his neurotic best friend and roommate, Steve, and Steve's wheelchair-bound brother, Billy. And so with a joke about to break out right there, Jefferies does things like take his buds to a Las Vegas brothel, tries to pick up women at a gay bar, and even ends up partying with the mentally-challenged! As the wonderful, inventive band Art Of Noise used to sing, yes, this is all "close-close-close to the edit!" But isn't that what you signed up for in the first place?! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.78:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and comes with the Bonus Features of:

Commentary on all episodes featuring Jim Jefferies, Peter O'Fallon and Dan Bakkedahl
