'Escapee'
(Dominic Purcell, Christine Evangelista, Melissa Ordway, Danny Nucci, Scott Elrod, et al / Blu ray / R / 2012 / Anchor Bay Entertainment)

Overview: While on an observational trip to a high security prison for the criminally insane, young psychology student Abby Jones (Evangelista) has a chilling encounter with psychotic serial killer Harmon Porter (Purcell). Abby returns home that night to study with her two roommates, unaware of the dark forces she’s unleashed within Harmon.

Blu ray Verdict: It says (on the front of the British version of this same release) "Based On True Events" on the front jacket cover, but I just don't know. Surely not, as there are so many that-just-can't-happen moments that connecting the dots of how he gets from A to B (or in this case, from the Mental Hospital to Abby's front door) is beyond crazy luck!

Anyhoo, and with that said, this is a VERY decent, above par movie it still has to be said! Written and directed by Campion E. Murphy, 'Escapee' also stars some high profile names: Dominic Purcell ('Prison Break'), Christine Evangelista ('The Joneses'), Faith Ford ('Murphy Brown'), Melissa Ordway ('Ted'), and Carly Chaikin ('Suburgatory'). Which takes the acting levels way up from your usual B-movie standards.

So, not to give too much away, but a killer is found in the woods having just killed his ex-girlfriend and gets put away for five years in a Mental Hospital. While on an observational trip a bunch of High Schoolers taking an extra credit class there find themselves in the middle of a 'Code Orange.' This meaning a high profile prisoner was about to be marched handcuffed and chained past them so for them to turn, face the way and NOT make any eye contact.

Of course one, Abby (Evangelista) does and suddenly psychotic killer Harmon Porter (Purcell) has her in his sights. And so, what follows is that three months later he breaks out and finds his way to her door - and along the way kills her friends! Well, there is more for the spoiler section of those reading this, but you'll have to watch it to find out what the twist is towards the end. One that, in my humble opinion, could have been played out with a lot more suspense.

Also, Faith Ford ('Hope & Faith') plays the Detective badgered by her own boss into finding the killer before they both lose their jobs. And she also is the producer of this movie! Yeah, I know, I didn't see that coming either! That said, Purcell plays his mandman in a very calm, mild mannered way, and Evangelista plays her Abby directly out of the Rachael Leigh Cook 'She's All That' handbook! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs. Bonus features on 'Escapee' DVD and Blu-ray™ include a Making-Of Featurette, Photo Gallery and the Trailer.
