'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - The 12th Season'
(Marg Helgenberger, Elisabeth Shue, Ted Danson, et al / 6-Disc DVD / NR / 2012 / Paramount Pictures)

Overview: CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is a fast-paced drama about a passionate team of forensic investigators trained to solve crimes the old-fashioned way - by examining the evidence. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is on the case 24-7, scouring the scene, collecting irrefutable evidence and finding the missing pieces that will solve the mystery.

DVD Verdict: In truth, and to my mind, this orignal 'CSI' might well have run its course of (new) interest. Sure it's still fluid, still good, worthwhile TV, but it just seems like the same old same old these days case-wise. And it truly hasn't been the same since Big Bill left the show a few years back, I think we can all agree on that!

And with him in mind, unfortunately Season 12 also marked the final go round the Vegas block for long-time star Marg Helgenberger, who played CSI Catherine Willows. Helgenberger left the show midway through Season 12 to head up a task force or the FBI, and (thankfully) I think the writers did the character justice. She got a more than n tearjerking send-off.

And luckily for us all, the Producers managed to work their magic once again and brought in veteran actress Elisabeth Shue as Marg's replacement. She played CSI Julie Finlay, a former colleague of Russell's who has a conflicted past with him. Amazingly, Shue gelled immediately with the cast and made the transition very smooth - for us and them to behold!

Anyway, moving on to this 12th season and in the season opener '73 Seconds,' multiple shootings and stabbings on a public tram leave the CSI team with one witness and a lot of questions. And they now come under the direction of new boss D.B. Russell (Ted Danson), a perfect fit for the team and someone else who gelled seamlessly into the cast line-up.

Moving on and some of my favorite episodes here in season 12 include: 'Bittersweet,' where whilst on a date Stokes realizes a piece of art at an exhibit has decomposing body parts in it; 'Maid Man,' where the former Mayor of Las Vegas is shot at the Mob Museum and the CSIs embark on a history lesson in search of clues; 'Freaks & Geeks,' where when a Jane Doe is found near the freakish attractions of a 19th-century-inspired traveling sideshow, the team investigates a cast of unusual characters; 'Genetic Disorder,' where the body of a naked dead man is discovered by Dr. Robbins' wife in their master bedroom; 'Stealing Home, where a house is stolen completely off its foundation; and both 'Dune and Gloom,' where a bomb kills an off-road race truck driver mid-race, and the season finale 'Homecoming,' where the CSI team investigates three dead bodies just blocks away from a campaign dinner. indeed, they think they know who the killer is before making a shocking discovery. This one guest stars include Peri Gilpin (as DB's wife), Enrique Murciano, Conor O'Farrell and the lovely Jaclyn Smith. These are all Widescreen Presentations (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs and come with the Special Features of:
