'A Horrible Way to Die' [Blu-ray]
(AJ Bowen, Amy Seimetz, Joe Swanberg, et al / Blu ray / R / 2011 / IMAGE Entertainment)

Overview: Notorious murderer Garrick Turrell (AJ Bowen, 'HATCHET II') has escaped from police custody and resumed his killing spree. His former girlfriend Sarah (Amy Seimetz, 'ALEXANDER THE LAST') is a recovering alcoholic trying to put her life back together in a new town with a new man (Joe Swanberg, 'NIGHTS AND WEEKENDS'). Her past continues to haunt her. And now her ex-boyfriend is leaving a trail of slaughter in his hunt to find her.

Blu ray Verdict: Thankfully, I can report that there are things I liked about this movie - and things, of course, I didn't! For the most part, all the acting is good, the story/plot is fairly original, and therein I have to give a high five to the writers for quite an original plot.

And, believe me, such things are hard to find these days. Almost everything made these days in movies and for TV has been done over and over again - as you well know, I'm sure.

But this story, with the most-incredible of alluring titles, is something I haven't seen before. Sure, there are plenty of movies about serial killers, but not that many about the serial killer's girlfriend - and that's what this one is about.

Indeed, she is the star of the movie. All of the guys, including her boyfriend, are basically her supporting actors. So, now let's go over one of the things about the movie that didn't sit with me visually: Her acting was really good for most of the movie, but there are a couple of scenes - and maybe this wasn't her fault re: editing - where she was talking and I couldn't understand a word she was saying!

I mean, sure, in those moments she was obviously VERY upset, so I got that, but come on dude, give us some clarity of speech so we can at least try to follow along! For it would have been nice to hear what she was actually saying at the time!

Anyway, that aside, and the "shaky cam" aside too, it has a really good script with an original story and is well worth your viewing money. If not only for the title and what it leads to! This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
