'Alvin and the Chipmunks - The Chipmunk Adventure'
(Nancy Cartwright, Phillip Clark, et al / 2-Disc DVD / G / (1987) 2008 / Paramount)
Overview: Lights camera Alvin! Alvin? Allll-vin! Yes it s everyone s favorite singing chipmunks-Alvin Simon and Theodore-in their very first full-length motion picture. And what a film it is! Filled with thrilling adventure toe-tapping songs and exotic global locations 'THE CHIPMUNK ADVENTURE' is an awesome animated odyssey.
DVD Verdict: The movie is, of course, a classic but (I hear you ask) is this version any different? Well no, not really, sorry. 'The Chipmunk Adventure' tells the tale of when Dave Seville embarks on a solo business trip to Europe and a disappointed Simon, Theodore and Alvin are left at home in the care of the accident-prone Miss Miller. But soon Alvin has agreed to an offer that will allow the boys to become jet-setters of their own-by participating in an around-the world hot-air balloon race!
Their main competitors in the airborne adventure are the Chipettes-Brittany Jeanette and Eleanor-but their real opponents turn out to be Klaus and Claudia two conniving international crooks who have cooked up the race as a front for their worldwide diamond smuggling operation!
Now, what I don't get - being picky - is what is with this new cover art?! First of all the characters are WAY off model, but there's something much more sinister at play here! Anyone that's seen the movie knows that there are two balloons in play in the movie. One with the three chipmunks and ... one with the three chipettes! But this artwork shows us the three boys in one balloon (barely fitting, btw), and in the other balloon we have ... the villains of the movie 'Clause and Claudia.' So, where are the three chipettes? Well, as Alvin happily shows off a diamond, Theodore holds desperately on to Brittany hovering hundreds of feet above the ground. Quite frankly I'm worried about the fate of Jeanette and Elonore based on this image! Which of course also reflects NOTHING of the movie.
