'Johnny Kapahala - Back on Board'
(Brandon Baker, Jake T. Austin, et al / DVD / G / (2006) 2007 / Walt Disney Video)

Overview: In the movie, Johnny Kapahala, a teen snowboarding champion from Vermont, returns to Oahu, Hawaii, for the wedding of his hero - his grandfather, local surf legend Johnny Tsunami - and to catch a few famous Kauai waves. When Johnny arrives, he meets his new family including his 12 year-old "Uncle Chris," who's only interest is to join a mountain boarding crew led by a teenage bully.

DVD Verdict: A championship surfer and snowboarder tests himself in a new and extreme arena when 'JOHNNY KAPAHALA: BACK ON BOARD' debuts on Disney DVD on October 9, 2007. Brandon Baker (CAMPUS CONFIDENTIAL) reprises his role as Johnny in the sequel to the hit Disney Channel Original Movie JOHNNY TSUNAMI. When Johnny and his parents return to Hawaii for his grandfather’s wedding, he finds himself facing two unfamiliar challenges. As he throws himself into the dangerous sport of dirtboarding he also has to help navigate the tricky terrain of family change.

True, 'Back on Board' lacks some of the spark that made its predecessor such a fan favorite, but it still blends a decent script with strong performances and positive messages about being true to yourself and thoughtful about your choice in friends. Top that off with thrilling scenes of the latest extreme sport, and families will likely find a lot to like.

The DVD is bursting with extreme bonus features that open a door into the exciting world of dirtboarding. “Angle On: Board Stunts” goes behind the scenes with expert dirtboarder and movie stunt coordinator Akoni Kama. The in-depth featurette allows viewers to become virtual stunt coordinators and select from a variety of different movie angle shots of dirtboard stunts. “The Dirt on Dirtboarding” is a look inside the extreme sport, with a “glossary” of dirtboarding terms and visual demonstrations of some breathtaking stunts. Cast interviews and music videos from the Jonas Brothers and T-squad complete the DVD’s bonus offerings. This is a Widescreen Presentation (1.85:1) enhanced for 16x9 TVs.
