'The Dresden Dolls: Live at the Roundhouse London'
(The Dresden Dolls, et al / DVD / NR / (2006) 2007 / Eagle Vision USA)

Overview: The Dresden Dolls (Amanda Palmer & Brian Viglione) were formed in Boston in 2001. Their unique musical style combines influences from alternative rock and 1930's German cabaret to create something fresh, exciting and highly theatrical. This live show from London's recently restored Roundhouse is a visual feast featuring circus acts, gymnasts and cabaret dancers as well as the striking appearance of the Dresden Dolls themselves. The songs in the set are drawn from both their studio albums and also include previously unreleased material.

DVD Verdict: This is another great DVD of the Dolls LIVE. This one has a different feel from the Paradise DVD. Paradise had songs from their 1st album, only the Dolls played and it was a small Boston venue. London's Roundhouse is much larger, there are some guest performers and more visual theatricality on display. About half the songs are from the Yes, Virginia album with some old favs thrown in, along with a great cover of Mad World and a song from Cabaret. So, 19 songs in about 1 hour 45 mins.

Plus there is a 26 minute documentary on the creation of the Roundhouse show that mostly highlights the guest artists and The Brigade with some coverage of the Dolls themselves. It gives a taste of what the entire experience surrounding a D.D. concert is like. There's a lot going on besides the stage show. As with Paradise, this DVD is very professionally produced and sounds great in stereo or 5.1.

If you've never seen the Dolls live and you've wondered how a drummer and a pianist could possibly put on a dynamic live rock show, get a hold of these DVDs and find out. They are awesome. Oh yeah, and there are also some bonus tracks from the concert: (1) Missed Me (2) Delilah.

Official Tracklisting: 1) Sex Changes 2) Gravity 3) Modern Moonlight 4) Mrs. O 5) Backstabber 6) Coin-Operated Boy 7) Two-Headed Boy 8) Mandy Goes To Med School 9) Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turn 10) Slide 11) The Jeep Song 12) Dirty Business 13) Shores Of California 14) Sing 15) Mein Herr 16) Mad World 17) Girl Anachronism.
