'The Hills - The Complete Second Season'
(Jennifer Howie, et al / 3-Disc DVD / NR / 2007 / Paramount)
Overview: With a year in Los Angeles under their belts in Season 2 of "The Hills," Lauren Conrad and her friends Heidi, Audrina, and Whitney learn that being young women in the big city isn't as easy as they thought. This year, when new boys force them to make tough choices, Lauren and the girls are about to find out that not even friendships can be taken for granted.
DVD Verdict: Fans of Laguna Beach obviously love this new show 'The Hills,' which follows Laguna's Lauren Conrad as she attends fashion school in Los Angeles and works as an intern at Teen Vogue magazine. OK, so that's the premise for this quasi-reality MTV series. But in reality, the show is an excuse to watch pretty young people make out, break up, get back together, and break up some more!
In Season Two Lauren Conrad and company return for another round of Southland drama. In the second season premiere, Lauren and Jason attempt to pick up the pieces after their breakup. But the split isn't the only thing Lauren has to contend with as she struggles to find balance in her hectic life.
The negatives of this show are the cast members not named Lauren! Heidi doesn't seem like the best friend that Lauren should have. She is too much like the girls from Laguna Beach Lauren wasn't friends with. That doesn't make much sense to me, but it's Lauren's life. Don't forget about Jason either. One of the guys from season two of Laguna Beach that Lauren dated is back to bring down The Hills. He is nothing but a total jerk to Lauren, but she still goes running back to him during the first season of this show. Girls never make any sense.
Again, The Hills takes the successful formula of Laguna Beach and continues it in Los Angeles. You center the show on the likable Lauren Conrad and throw in some new and old faces with new drama each week, and you have a recipe for another hit reality show for MTV. The Hills is back for a third season airing soon, and I see no reason why there couldn't be more seasons in the future.
